Frequently Asked Questions

We advise on summer opportunities and courses for 9th graders but typically begin working with students in the second semester of sophomore year or at some point during their junior year. Depending on availability in our practice, we occasionally have openings for seniors who primarily require editorial assistance with college essays.

Our goal is to put students in the driver’s seat during their college search, and we trust them to be responsible for scheduling appointments and meeting application deadlines. At the same time, we make time to answer parents' questions and concerns throughout the process through regular email broadcasts, phone calls, and Zoom meetings as they arise during their child’s college search.

No. College guidance counselors play a critical role in submitting supporting application documents such as official high school transcripts and recommendations. We consider ourselves part of the team and work closely with fewer students behind the scenes to provide more extensive and personalized support (e.g., brainstorming and reviewing most college essays students write).

We charge a comprehensive fee for ongoing support throughout a student’s college search and application process. Our support continues until each student selects their college home.

Our essay coaching package covers the college activity resume, main personal essay, and 2-3 supplemental essays. Parents may purchase extra hours if more assistance is needed.

No. While many of our students apply to and are admitted to highly selective schools, we focus on meeting each student where they are academically, socially, and personally. Our goal is to make college admissions transparent and as stress-free as possible, and to ensure each student finds a college home suited to their interests and personality.

We take time to educate parents about how need-based financial aid and merit-based scholarships work. In response to the growing demand from families to consider schools offering more generous merit scholarships, we work to develop a college search list that includes schools where their child is more likely to receive a merit award and regularly provide parents with current data on the need and merit aid statistics at institutions nationwide.
